The bliss. Story

It was a warm afternoon in the spring of 1997. Across the street from Secula Studios, Bill Shaw's green Golf came to a stop. He was looking to get hitched up as the lead singer of the cover band that had formerly been known as 88 East.

Once inside the studio, Bill was asked by guitarist Joe Secula, drummer Ed Griggs and bassist Jack Secula to sing some of the songs in the band's repetoire as they played and recorded the audition. Apparently, Mr. Griggs liked what he heard as Bill would later hear from guitarist Joe, "well, Ed... you hired him." So, bliss. was born. The band played its first gigs in the south Jersey area in late 1997 at the Sea Pine Inn in Waretown. From the Sea Pine, bliss. moved on to Pt. Pleasant area bars such as J.P. Bailey's and Leggets, located in nearby Manasquan. Later, bliss. played to the crowds at the Seagull on Rt. 35 in Hazlet and The Plum Street Pub in New Brunswick.

After playing together for about six months, Bill took a leave from the band and bliss. played on with another lead singer. They picked up the hot Belmar nightclub Bar Anticipation as one of their regular venues. Shortly thereafter, bliss. took a break as each of the members of the band found themselves commited elsewhere.

By early January 2001, some of the band members were getting the old urge to play. Joe got in touch with Jack, Ed and Bill and a reunion was planned at a studio in Freehold. The band was satisfied with the jam session and planned on doing it again in the near future. Soon thereafter, the band started to get together on a more regular basis until, in the summer of 2001, the band decided to take the show back out on the road. They were bliss. again, whole - complete. You can get ready... they'll be appearing in your neighborhood soon.
